NEW DELHI: Along with reshuffle of the Union Cabinet and the BJP organisation to be ready for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next April, speculation is rife here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may also change some of the state governors.
Amont the names in circulation is that of former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh (81), who joined the BJP after dissolving an unsuccessful regional party he floated after expulsion from the Congress. His name is under consideration as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, in place of Manoj Sinha holding the post since 2020, the BJP sources here said.
They said Modi may also pull out two or three governors to enter the Lok Sabha polls and they include Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan (71). Modi does not share what is up to his mind and so the party leaders do not speculate, lest they attract his ire.
Sources said the Captain was given an impression that the BJP will be banking on him to get it some Lok Sabha seats in Punjab but he felt slighted over the BJP giving Punjab presidentship to Sunil Jakhar, another Congress leader and son of former Lok Sabha Speaker Balram Jakhar, a Congress veteran. Modi is trying to pacify him by moving to J&K as the governor, the sources added.
