CONG CALLS FOR DISTRICT-LEVEL PROTESTS ON MONDAY

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday gave a call for the party workers to hold demonstrations before the district offices of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and the State Bank of India nationwide to protest against promoting the Adani group at the instance of Prime Minister Modi.

Party general secretary K C Venugopal said the protests are to back the party’s demand for a probe into the Adani episode by a Joint Parliamentary Committee or under the supervision of the Chief Justice of India.

He said the entire nation, particularly the middle class, is worreid over the policy of the Modi government to benefit the selected billionaire friends.

Venugopal said 39 crore LIC policy holders have suffered the loss of Rs 33,060 crore from the Adani group’s investment in the LIC while the SBI and other Indian Banks that gave loans to the group have lost Rs 80,000 crore.

He said the Congress is never against any particular Indian corporate family. “We are against the crony capitalism. We are against changing the rules to benefit a selected millionaires. The party has always stood with poor and common man and will always be so,” he added.
