NEW DELHI: Free ration of five kilograms of foodgrains is most likely to be extended for another six months under a central scheme in force for the past 20 months that was launched on account of the Covid pandemic and ending on March 31.
Continuation of the scheme will be “our return gift” to the people for voting back the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent Assembly elections in four states, a BJP leader said. He said the Prime Minister has asked the ministry of public distribution to assess the cost for continuing the scheme as the poor have still not come out of the miseries of the post-Covid effects.
