NEW DELHI: Fresh Covid-19 cases in India fell below 10,000-mark for the first time on Monday after almost two months as the health ministry reported 9,531 infections in 24 hours ending at 8 AM and 26 related deaths. The active case load also dropped below 1 lakh-mark to touch 92,648.
Also, for the first time in 8 weeks, India recorded less than 1 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases in the week ending on Sunday as the 7-day test positivity rate fell below 4%, a first since July 7. Most states and Union Territories reported a decline in the Covid-19 cases in the week, but the fall was less marked in Maharashtra that posted 12,043 nw cases as against 12,608 in the previous week. Goa also saw a slight increase of 2% in the infections during the week.
Deaths from the virus recorded a slight decline, with around 275 new fatalities during the week as against 307 in the previous week. The overall deaths in the country from the virus reached 5,27,368 while 4,37,23,944 have recovered.
Rajasthan and West Bengal reported 4 deaths each in 24 hours, followed by 2 each in Punjab, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, UP and Karnataka and 1 each in MP, Odisha, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Odisha. Besides, 10 old deaths were reconciled in Kerala. Punjab recorded 482 new cases in 24 hours.
The nationwide vaccinations hit 210.02 crore, with 33.33 lakh vaccine does imparted in the past 24 hours.
