NEW DELHI: Immediately after completion of the elections of the President and the Vice-President of India, the government has to work on appointment of the governors of half a dozen states, five of which are from the Northeast.
The governors completing their term are from Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Andaman Nicobar while Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi, holding the additional charge of Nagaland, is also retiring in October.
Names in circulation to fill the governors’ posts include former Karnataka chief minister BSY Yeddiurappa as also former Himachal Pradesh CM Prem Kumar Dhumal and senior Bihar leader CP Thakur.
Two governors, whose 5-year term has already ended, continue their second term are Punjab govrenor Banwarilal Purohit and Gujarat’s Acharya Devvrat. Delhi’s Lt Governor Anil Baijal, an ex-bureaucrat, is also having the second term.
