HARYANA RESERVATION CASE OFF TO FEB 11

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned to Friday the appeal of the Haryana government against the Punjab and Haryana High Court last week staying the state law on mandating 75% job reservation to the locals in the private sector.

The case listed at the end at serial No 45 before the Bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and Bhushan R Gavai could not come up when the Bench rose at 4 PM and so adjourned for hearing on the last day of the week.

A Bench headed by the Chief Justice had on Friday ordered listing of the matter on Monday on Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the state government, sought urgent listing, narrating how a High Court judge stayed the law after hearing the petitioner’s counsel for just 90 seconds, without giving any time to the state government counsel to explain.
