NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday extended interim relief from Arrest till March 24 to ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh in a case related to the charges of misconduct and corruption.
A Bench of Justices S K Kaul and M M Sundresh was hearing a petition of Singh, seeking protection from coercive steps by the Mumbai Police in the cases registered against him.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, once again pressed for the central agencies probe all cases in the interest of things. Earlier, the Bench had allowed probe against Singh by the Mumbai Police, but restraining it from filing the charge sheets.
The Court is to take a call on whether the FIRs lodged by the Maharashtra Police against Singh be handed over to the CBI or not, asking the state government to keep its hands off from these cases till the issue is decided.
