NEW DELHI: Over 9,000 elected delegates will be issued the photo identity cards for voting in the Congress President’s election on October 17 and those having the IDs without photo will have to produce their Aadhaar card to establish their identity.
The party’s central election authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry also clarified that the one-liner authorisation to the Congress President sought to nominate the state party presidents has nothing to do with the election of the Congress president.
He told a Press conference here that the nominations for the Congress President will be accepted from September 24 to 30 and after scrutiny, the withdrawals will be entertained for seven days. If there are more than one contestants, the polling will take place at all state party headquarters on October 17.
Mistry said he held a meeting with the Pradesh Returning Officers (PROs) here on Wednesday to discuss the poll preparations. He said the list of the delegates eligible for voting will be accessible from the PROs from September 20 onwards.
As regards the constitution of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest decision-making body, he said it will be conducted a day after the AICC session, in which 12 will be elected directly while 11 will be nominated by the new president.
In reply to a question, Mistry said the delegates were elected by and large through consensus except in Andaman and Nicobar, which witnessed a very keen contest.
