NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved e-auction of 5G spectrum and the Department of Telecom lost no time in issuing Notice Inviting Application (NIA) by putting 72 GHz of spectrum for bidding, with the goal of rolling out 5G internet services by July end, about 10 times faster than the current 4G services.
The notice of auction is for 20 years and the bidders will be given an option to surrender the spectrum after 10 years with no liabilities. Also, payment allowed in 20 equal annual installments to be paid in advance every year. This is to ease cash flow requirements and lower the cost of doing business.
This will be an important path for policy initiatives of the government through the programmes such as Digital India, Start-up India and Make in India. It will promote access to mobile banking, online education, telemedicine, e-ration etc. to Antyoday families., the DoT said.
