NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to examine the case of a Haryana Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) mowed down by the mining mafia in the Arawali Hills in Nuh district two days ago.DSP Surender Singh — who was investigating illegal stone-mining on Tuesday — had signalled a dumper-truck to halt to check documents in Aravali hills in Pachgaon area near Tauru, but the driver sped on, running him over.

Having banned mining in the Aravalis, the top court has been monitoring the issue.

Nuh Police have nabbed the truck driver who had mowed down the DSP. He was arrested from Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district following interrogation of cleaner Ikkar, who was arrested on Tuesday after being shot at and injured during an encounter with police.

Justice Khanwilkar is retiring on July 29 and as such he has only six days in the Court. The case may be transferred to some other Bench as decided by the Chief Justice of India.
