6 HIGH COURTS TO GET NEW CHIEFS

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court collegium on Tuesday recommended appointment of the chief justices of half a dozen High Courts, including Telangana High Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

Sharma(60) originally comes from the Madhya Pradesh High Court where he joined the judiciary in January 2008. He has been also an acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, who entered the judiciary as a judge in Gauhati and now serving in Telangana is recommended to be elevated as the Chief Justice in the Telangana High Court.

Other Chief Justices recommended are: Justices Shambhaji Shiwaji Shinde and Amjad A Sayed from the Bombay High Court as the Chief Justices of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh respectively, Vipin Sanghi moved from Delhi as Uttarakhand Chief Justice and Justice Rashmin M Chhaya of Gujarat as the new Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

Justice Shinde will be Rajasthan’s Chief Justice for only two months since he is due for retirement on August 1 when he turns 62. He had joined the judiciary in the Bombay High Court in March 2008. He did his LL.B from Marathwada University in Aurangabad and LL.M from Pune University and Warwick University, UK. He started practice in the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court since November 1989.
