NEW DELHI: Hailing the Supreme Court’s stay on the sedition law, the Congress on Wednesday said: “Those speaking truth to power will finally have their way.”
Its chief spokesman and general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said the Supreme Court has finally spoken in the historic verdict by staying the sedition law.
“Speaking truth to power is no sedition; it is true nationalism and the Supreme Court has finally spoken,” he said in a short video statement, calling for the sedition law to go. The Congress had called for removal of the sedition law provision in its 2019 poll manifesto..
He said the verdict sends a clear-cut message that the government cannot suppress and subjugate us from making public opinion or dissent of everyone who criticises the autocratic and dictatorial rulers and their policies.
“You can no longer suppress the voice of truth and dissent. Those critical of the government must be heard and the course correction needs to be done,” Surjewala said.
He said the Britishers had heaped the law upon crores and lakhs of Congressmen and the time has come that it must go.
