PARLIAMENT’S SECURITY BREACH BY TWO PERSONS

NEW DELHI: Opposition was agitated in both the Houses of Parliament on two persons breach a big security department of Parliament on Wednesday and release gas from cannister creating sensation.

Rajya Sabha Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge said the security breach is a very serious matter. He demanded that the Home Minister should come to both the Houses and give a statement. He also referred the Lok Sabha adjourned for two hours in the afternoon to express concern.

However, Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar disagreed and continued the ongoing discussion on a Bill. Many opposition members abstained but the chairman did not relent.

Kharge noted that December 13 itself on the Martyr’s Day, when House paid tribute to the brave security personnel who attacked Parliament 22 years ago.

“We hope that the government will take this very seriously and we demand a thorough investigation into the entire incident. We are always ready for the unity and integrity of the country,” Kharge said.

The Congress underlined that the BJP was party in power in 2001 during the terrorist attack on Parliament and also in 2023 security breach in Parliament. The Lok Sabha was stunned by two persons, a man and a woman, jumping from the visitors’ gallery and released yellow gas from a canister. Both were arrested by the security.
In a comment, the Congress said: “It’s clear BJP is incapable of ensuring security of both the Parliament and the nation.”

Preliminary investigation details in the Parliament security breach case reveal that the two people – Neelam and Amol (caught outside the Parliament building inside the premises)-were not carrying mobile phones. They were not carrying any bags or identity proofs. They claim that they reached Parliament on their own and refused association with any organisation. Police are forming a special team for interrogation, Delhi Police said.

Today, on the 22nd anniversary of the terror attack on the old Parliament building, two men, both carrying smoke canisters emitting an unidentified yellow smoke, jumped from the visitors’ gallery and ran into the Lok Sabha chamber.

How did such a significant security breach occur especially when Amit Shah controlled Delhi Police was said to be on high alert? And in whose name were the visitor’s passes issued?

Opposition boycotted the Rajya Sabha while the Chairman refused to adjourn the House and continue with the discussion on Central University Bill was under discussion and then passed.

The Lok Sabha resumed the session at 4 PM when Speaker Om Birla congratulated the security personnel and MPs who were sitting at the place where the two jumped. He said the abortive attempt by the two intruders was a matter of concern and exercise has begun to further strengthen the security and until no passes to the visitors.
