NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused urgent listing of the Hijab row cases against the Karnataka High Court verdict on senior advocate Devadutt Kamt mentioning a case on behalf of a Muslim girl and declined to give any specific date while dismissing all petitions seeking direction for permission to wear hijab in classroom.

Kamat insisted on urgent hearing since the exams were approaching. A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana told him not to sensationalise the matter since this has nothing to do with exams when he contended that the girl students were not being allowed to enter the schools and they will lose one year.

The Supreme Court had refused the urgent hearing also on March 16 on the High Court holding that wearing of hijab by the Muslim girls does not form a part of the essential religious practice in Islamic faith.
