NEW DELHI: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and other farmers’ groups on Monday organised a day-long “Mhapanchayat” at Jantar Mantar here to protest against unemployment amid heavy deployment of police in the national capital as well as delhi borders.

Among the demands raised by the speakers at the massive gathering included justice to kin of the victims killed in Lakhimpur Kheri incident last year and release of the mailed farm law protesters.

The prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were imposed and the security was tightened at the three border entry points of Delhi at Ghazipur, Singhu and Tikri and yet hundreds of the farmers sneaked in to gather at Jantar Mantar for the protest.

The farmer leaders said the police did not permit the protests but they will continue. Their demands include release of all jailed protesters and arrest of Minister of State Ajay Mishra Teni, whose son Ashish was allegedly involved in mowing down the farmers in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence incident, Minimum Support Price (MSP) and revocation of the electricity amendment Bill 2022.

The protests are being led by SKM, an umbrella body of 40 farm organisations. Barricdes have been put around the protest site at Jantar Mantar.
