JAINS WIN THEIR RELIGIOUS HERITAGE SITE CASE

NEW DELHI: In a major victory of Jains seeking to protect their heritage sites, the ministry of environment and forests on Thursday stayed the eco sensitive zone notification of 2019 pertaining to Sammed Shikharji Parvat Kshetra in Jharkhand, including all tourism and eco-tourism activities.

It directed the state government to immediately take all steps to ensure respect to the Jain community upset over attempt to allow tourism in the Parasnath Wildlife Sanctuary, stating that the sentiments of the followers of Jainism were adversely affected.

The notification was stayed following a meeting of Union Minister Bhupinder Yadav with the representatives of the Jain community, in which all possible solutions wwere discussed. The minister agreed to the demand of the community to maintain the piousness of the place, says a ministry press note.
