President, All India Kisan Congress and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira today supported the demand by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to change the nomenclature of the ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ to ‘Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas’

“I am sure our government will adhere to the demand of the Sikh community and correctly honour the sacrifices of Shabizadas made for the cause of humanity”, Khaira said in a statement here today.

The Congress leader while acknowledging the great gesture by the government of India said, an overwhelming majority of the Sikhs feels that the nomenclature of “Veer Bal Diwas” goes contradictory to what is believed among the community. He pointed out, both the Sahibzadas are addressed as “Baba”.

They were no doubt as young as six and nine years old when they laid down great sacrifices while fighting against the tyranny of the Mughals. It is the greatness of this sacrifice that the Sikhs address them as Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh.

“Respecting the sentiments of the Sikh community, the government should not have an problem in naming it as Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas, instead of Veer Bal Diwas”, he observed, while hoping that the government of India will agree to the demand in the same spirit as it wanted to honour the great memories of the younger Sahibzadas.
