NEW DELHI/OLD TRUCKS, BUSES TO REQUIRE FITNESS CERTIFICATE EVERY YEAR

From Our Bureau

NEW DELHI: Owners of trucks and buses that are more than eight years old will have to go for witness certificate of their vehicles every year from the government-approved automated fitness stations under new rules being brought into force in the new financial year from April 1.

Even the new trucks and buses will have to get the fitness checked every second year after their purchase. Vehicles plying on roads without the fitness certificate will be impounded and their owners fined heftily.

The Road Transport and Highways Ministry gazetted a draft notification in this regard on February 2, inviting objections and suggestions, noting that the mandatory new rules are to be enforced to protect the environment and the road safety.

Once you take your vehicle for fitness, the fitness station will record the vehicle’s registration number, its owner, address and mobile number and upload it on the central data centre to enable the government to have their records to send alert messages for renewal of the fitness certificate on time.
