NEW DELHI: Prospects of Sachin Pilot, former deputy CM and ex-PCC chief until his rebellion in July 2020, are bright from the way Congress President Sonia Gandhi called him for a one-to-one meeting on Thursday, a day after meeting Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
That Sonia wanted a counterview on the Assembly elections due in the desert state in December 2023 only indicates that the Rajasthan leadership issue is not yet settled as the leadership wants to bolster the electoral prospects.
Notwithstanding significant measures initiated by the government as advised from Delhi, the political situation is still not very favourable for the Congress as a section of the Congress still favours change to offer something new in the state where Gehlot has ruled for three terms.
The pilot group wants change at the earliests after the failed experiment in Punjab where Charanjit Singh Chani got barely 100 days to make a mark. Sources here say Gehlot will be brought here to be a part of the Congress high command.
Sources say the high command has a problem at hand as well as in Chhattisgarh where senior minister T S Singh Deo wants to replace Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. They say it will not be easy for the central leadership to remove two sitting chief ministers.
