NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday extended for a week the protection from arrest given to Lok Insaf Party ML Simarjit Singh Bains, against whom a Punjab court has issued an non-bailable warrant (NBW), seeking reply from the Punjab government to enable the matter dealt after a week.
A Bench led by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana also gave protection from any coercive action against a woman who was allegedly slapped with several cases after she lodged a criminal case against Bains.
The Bench, which also consisted of Justices A S Bopanna and Ms Hima Kohli, had on Tuesday given Bains protection from arrest for two days. It also raised questions over the conduct of Bains, a two-time MLA
