NEW DELHI: Doordarshan, ZEE News and other private TV channels resorted to play up the U.P. civic polls on Saturday to show the BJP victory on noticing the early trends of the Congress leading in the Karnataka Assembly elections.

The Congress swept the Karnataka polls winning 137 seats as against the ruling BJP reduced to 64 while the Janata Dal(S) votes dropped further to 19 seats and others bagged 4 seats in the 224-seat Assembly.

This establishes the jinx in Karnataka that no single party wins for the second time as the BJP, Congress and Janata Dal(S) form the alternative governments.

The TV channels, upset over the BJP defeat in Karnataka, played the trick of highlighting the results of the U.P. civil elections to show the BJP winning everywhere.

All 17 seats of Mayors went to the BJP while in the municipal elections, the BJP won 89 seats as against SP’s 34 and in Nagar Panchayat elections 204 went to the BJP as against 171 to Samajwadi Party.

The victories in Uttar Pradesh are attributed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath while all commentators are stating that the BJP’s ouster in Karnataka is attributed to Prime Minister Modi who carried out a most intensive campaign but without success.
