NEW DELHI: Congress Lok Sabha whip Manickam Tagore has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to send to the privilege committee a complaint against Prime Minister Modi for deliberately distorting Sonia Gandhi’s unity and sovereignty remark during the Karnataka Assembly elections.

He claimed that Sonia had not spoken on sovereignty of Karnataka at all in her speech, but Modi as the representative of the ruling BJP raised a false accusation againt her, claiming that the PM’s remark misresents the statement of Sonia Gandhi, the chair person of the Congress Parliamentary Party, tht the meaning of protection sobvereignty as meant by the Congress is to separate the state from India.

“Such a vehement statement from the Prime Minister is highly obnoxious which would be a wrong precedence for the people who acquire high positions in the country either now or in future,” Tagore said, adding that the Congress never considers separation of Karnataka from India.
