NEW DELHI: Ankit Love, son of late Bhim Singh, founder of the Panthers Party was detained by Jammu Police on protesting against the alleged theft of Lithium, known as white gold, in the Himalayan mountainous Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency from where his father was elected in the 1988 by-election.
He had protested at the Centre’s auction scheduled for December for 5.9 million tonnes of lithium mineral resereves recovered from the area.
Love has demanded stoppage of all auctions of the J&K minerals and the Assembly elections should be held first. He claimed it would be otherwise orchestrate violation of the Indian law under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act. He wants an elected Assembly lawfully assign the mineral rights that the Centre wants to prevent.
