BAR COUNCIL FOR RAISING RETIREMENT AGE OF SC/HC JUDGES

NEW DELHI: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has in a joint meeting with the state bar councils unanimously passed a resolution for an immediate amendment to raise the retirement age of the Supreme Court judges from 65 to 67 years and that of the High Court judges from 62 to 65 years.

The resolution is being sent to Prime Minister Modi and Law Minister Rijiju for an immediate action, according to a BCI press statement. The joint meeting also sought the amendment to various statutes to enable appointment of the experienced lawyers as chairpersons of various commissions and other forums.
