NEW DELHI: In preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has identified its 144 seats where it either lost them in 2019 or performed very poorly.

Two or three of them are in the charge of each BJP leader. The party sources said the responsibility will be decentralised to ensure only one leader handles these seats.

In his second inning as the party president, Jagat Prakash Nadda is contemplating to make changes in the central office-bearers and spokespersons and reduce the load of looking after the constituencies from the Central ministers who are unable to handle own ministry work and focus on own constituencies while catering to other constituencies.

He has held consultations with the senior leaders on decentralisation of the responsibilities and encourage them to travel more to get into touch with the lower cadres to prepare them for the Lok Sabha polls.

The party sources said Nadda wants to expand his central team as he finds the current 40 office-bearers are not able to deliver. As regards travels, he is himself ensuring to be travelling for almost 22 days in a month to attend to the constituencies which could not be catered by the existing team.

All those to be given the responsibilities will also be given one or the other posts since Nadda’s experience is that those working without posts are unable to convey themselves to the rank and file effectively. Sources said the party constitution doesn’t bind hands of the president in limiting the number of office-bearers and hence he may soon expand the central team of the organisation.
