BBC CONTINUES BROADCASTS AS “SURVEY” DIDN’T STOP THEM

NEW DELHI: The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is continuing the broadcast of its news in English, Hindi, Punjabi and other Indian languages ignoring the Income Tax Department continuing the “survey” of its financial data and making copies of the organisation’s electronic and paper data in Mumbai and Delhi.

The “survey” is usually carried out during the working hours, but the sleuths are doing rather a search day and night, clocking more than 50 hours by now.

The BBC staffers are working from home and filing their reports to Mumbai where the authorities have not shut down the transmissions.

The authorities claimed the survey would continue for some more time, saying the teams on the ground will decide when to close the operations.

The survey is being carried out to investigate issues related to the international taxation and pricing of the BBC subsidiary companies, the ifficials said.

The survey teams are seeking answers on the financial transactions, the company structure and other details about the news company. They are copying data from electronic gadgets as part of their task to collect the evidence, the officials said.

While there has been no official statement from the Income Tax Department so far, the BBC said on Tuesday that it was cooperating with the authorities
