NEW DELHI: The Congress has convened a series of meetings in Delhi to finalise the party’s poll strategy in the states going to the Assembly polls this year, including one on Rajasthan on Saturday.
Besides Rajasthan, Madhy Pradesh, Telangana and Chhattisgarh are listed for the Assembly polls that are seen as virtual semifinal before the Lok Sabha elections in April next year.
A meeting of the Chhattisgarh elections was held here on Wednesday that decided to go to polls under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party president Rahul Gandhi besides all senior party leaders will be present on Saturday to discuss the poll preparations and strategies in Rajasthan. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his arch rival Sachin Pilot as also all Rajasthan leaders will be present. Gehlot and Pilot may hold a separate meeting after this review gathering.
The party leadership wants the Congress to contest the Rajasthan elections unitedly as in Karnataka and so it continues to bridge the differences between Gehlot and Pilot. It is trying to resolve the issues raked up by Pilot. It wanted Pilot removed from the Rajasthan scene but he refused the offer to take up a responsibility in the AICC headquarters in Delhi.
