NEW DELHI: The monsoon session of Parliament is likely to start from the third week of July and it is likely to end on August 10.

The exact dates will be finalised in a day or two by the Cabinet Committee of Parliamentary affairs headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The session may start from July 17 or 20.

Though the new Parliament building has been inaugurated, some work is still going on. So, there is a possibility of holding the session in the old building.

The main highlight of the session is a Bill to replace the Ordinance giving more administrative powers to Delhi’s Lt Governor against which Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal may divide the Opposition as the Congress is not supporting Kejriwal’s move to unite all opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha.

The BJP-led NDA, with the support of the NDA members, has a strength of 111 members in the Rajya Sabha as against the Opposition’s combined strength of 106, excluding YSR Congress Party, BJD, BSP, TDP and Janata Dal(Secular). These five parties have not announced their support to the AAP like other opposition parties.
