NEW DELHI: The Congress is to run a 3-phased campaign against fuel price rise and inflation from March 31 to April 7, starting with ringing of bells and beating of drums at 11 AM from Thursday, party chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala announced here on Saturday.

He told a Press conference here that in the first phase, the Congress workers and common people will protest outside their h ouses and at public places on Thursday.

“The Congress president, in consultation with the party general secretaries and state in-charges at a meeting here on Saturday decided to champion the people’s cause in a three-phased programme—Mehngai-Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan,” Surjewala said.

From April 2 to April 4, the Congress, along with NGOs, religious, social organisations and resident welfare bodies, will organise dharnas and marches at the district level across the country, he added

The campaign includes Dharna and march at the district headquarters from April 2 to 4 and a state-level Dharna and march on April 7 in all state capitals.

Surjewala said this campaign is to expose the government’s deceit with the people by keeping the prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas cylinder, piped natural gas and  CNG for 137 days to gather votes and it is now increasing their prices for the past one week to disrupt the budget of all families.
