CONG PRESIDENT POLL ON 17TH: KHARGE VS THAROOR

NEW DELHI: The Congress is all set to elect its new president on October 17, picking up a non-Gandhi after over two decades to head the party. After the end of withdrawals on Saturday, there is a straight fight between Mallikarjun Kharge (80) and Shashi Tharoor.

The polling takes place at all state headquarters of the party as well as at the camp site in Karnataka’s Bellary where the Bharat Jodo Yatra will halt on October 17 for a day to enable Rahul Gandhi and 40 other leaders to cast their votes.

Central Election Authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry, a former MP from Gujarat, told reporters here that all the ballot boxes will be brought to the AICC headquarters here on October 18 and the counting of votes will take place in his supervision on October 19 to declare the results on the same day.
