COCAINE WORTH OVER RS 502 CRORE SEIZED FROM NHAVA SHEVA PORT

NEW DELHI: The high quality Cocaine worth over Rs 502 crore, illegally imported from South Africa, was seized at the Nhava Sheva Port in Navi Mumbai by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on October 6.

It was smuggled in the form of bricks weighing a kilo each as hidden in a container carrying pears and green apples. Total 50 such bricks weighing 50.23 kg, hidden inside the boxes of green apples were seized. This is the largest seizure of cocaine attempted to be smuggled through sea containers in the recent past.

The importer is the same person who was earlier arrested by DRI in a case in Vashi, involving seizure of 198 og meth and 9 kg cocaine concealed in a consignment of oranges, also originating from South Africa. He has been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act).
