He was earlier the Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha and moved to the Rajya Sabha to assume that status after the retirement of Ghulam Nabi Azad.

The Congress is losing two seats in Assam and another one in Himachal Pradesh.

The Trinamul Congress of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is now the second opposition party after the Congress, though far below at just 13 berths, followed by DMK’s 10.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, which has now 97 seats in the Rajya Sabha, will be gainer in Thursday’s elections, but it would be still short of a clear majority in the House of 250.
