NEW DELHI: As a part of truce with the G-23 rebels, Congress president Sonia Gandhi may accommodate former Rajya Sabha Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad (73) and Rajya Sabha deputy leader Anand Sharma (69) in the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan in the biennial elections due in the month of June,

Four of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats are falling vacant on July 4 on the retirements of BJP national vice-president Om Prakash Mathur, former minister K J Alphons, and the BJP’s Harshvardhan Singh Dungarpur and
Ramkumar Verma.

With the Congress having 108 out of 200 MLAs in the Rajasthan Assembly, the Congress will have a cakewalk in winning two Rajya Sabha seats while it may even push for a third seat while the BJP can easily win at least one seat on the strength of 71 MLAs. The BJP may opt for repeating Mathur.
