NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal is known for throwing up surprises and so on Friday he surprised his party leaders in Gujarat by announcing a former television actor Isudan Gadhvi as his party’s CM face in the forthcoming Gujarat Assembly elections.

Gadhvi, an OBC from a well-to-do farmers’ family from Saurashtra, quit as a TV personality at the top of his career to join AAP in 2021, is one of the national general secretaries of AAP. Other two who were in the race for the post were AAP’s Gujarat president Gopal Italia and general secretary Manoj Soratihya.

During his journalism days, Gadhvi worked on the Doordarshan show ‘Yojana’ and went on to be the man who exposed a Rs 150-crore scam of illegal deforestation in Dang and Kaparada talukas of Gujarat on his news show. In 2015, when he joined VTV Gujarati, his most popular show ‘Mahamanthan’ would run from 8-9 pm.

He says: he only wants God to give me strength to alleviate hardships of people. “Politics is not my “shauk”, it is my “majboori” that I have come into politics, he said, adding that as a TV journalist, he tried to raise the voice of people. However, if you want to clean something, you have to be a part of it,” he signs off.
