COVID-19 SCENARIO DETERIORATES AS NEW CASES JUMP TO 12,249

NEW DELHI: India’s Covid-19 scenario deteriorates as the new infections on Wednesday jumped to 12,249, after a dip to 9,923 on the previous day while 5 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, one each in Delhi, Maharashtra, J&K, UP and West Bengal. The Health Ministry’s death toll, however, stood at 13 because of 8 old deaths in Kerala counted.

The viral disease has so far taken the toll of 5,24,903 while 4,27,25,055 others have recovered. The active caseload went up to 81,687, with 2,374 added in 24 hours.

The national vaccination stands at 196.45 crore, with 12.28 lakh doses imparted in 24 hours.

Maharashtra reported 3,659 fresh COVID-19 cases in 24 hours up to 8 AM on Wednesday, including 1,781 in Mumbai, and one fatality, taking the tally to 79,41,762 and the toll to 1,47,889, a health department official said. The addition to the tally was 1,305 or 55 per cent more than the 2,354 cases reported a day earlier. Of the new cases,

Mumbai Circle, which includes the country’s financial capital and its surrounding metropolitan region, led with 2,952 cases, followed by 454 in Pune, 72 in Nashik, 69 in Nagpur, 28 in Akola, 27 in Aurangabad and 26 in Latur.

The addition to the tally in Mumbai Circle included 1,781 in the metropolis, which also reported the lone death for the day. Delhi reported 1,383 fresh COVID-19 cases and one more death due to the viral disease in a span of 24 hours, while the positivity rate was recorded at 7.22 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department.

Delhi’s Covid case tally has gone up to 19,24,532, while the death toll due to the disease has climbed to 26,239, the department said in its latest bulletin.

The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh reached 10,43,687 on Tuesday with the addition of 80 cases, a health official said. The death toll remained unchanged at 10,740 as no fresh COVID-19 fatality was reported.
