NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister, Modi on Wednesday approved redevelopment of three major railway stations, including Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, as iconic station buildings with an investment of nearly Rs 10,000 crore.

Two other stations identified for the purpose are the New Delhi railway station and the Ahmedabad railway station.

This is in tune with the ongoing work on redevelopment of 199 other railway stations, in which tenders have been already issued for 47 stations while the work is in progress at 32 other stations.

Every station to be developed will have spacious roof plaza with amenities like retail, cafeteria and recreational facilities, food court, place for children to play, smooth movement of traffic and segregation of arrival and departures, besides fully covered platforms.
