BARRING SERIOUS OFFENDERS FROM CONTESTING POLLS?

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Centre and the Election Commission for debarring the persons charged with serious offences from contesting the elections.

A bench of Justices K M Joseph and Hrishikesh Roy issued notices on a petition filed by Delhi BJP leader and lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay, who has sought steps to restrain those who have b been charge-sheeted in the criminal cases.
