NEW DELHI: The Government on Monday appointed Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, the vice-chancellor of Pune’s Savitribai Phule University, as the first woman vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, vice Prof M Jagdesh Kumar (formerly with Delhi IIT), who has been appointed the new chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Born in St Petersburg, Russia (USSR), on July 15, 1962, she has been in the teaching field since 1988. She is associated with renowned organisations, such as the Indian Association of American Studies, the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, the American Studies Research Institute, Hyderabad, the Indian Secular Society, and the All India Political Science Association.
