NEW DELHI: GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2022 exams, meant for postgraduate courses in engineering, will be held on Saturday as scheduled as the Supreme Court refused to defer them in a setback to over 9 lakh students.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana and Justices A S Bopanna and Ms Hima Kohli said delaying the test may lead to “chaos and uncertainty” among the candidates and it won’t play with the career of students who have prepared for it. GATE results are also used by some PSUs for recruitment of the engineering graduates.

The petitioners claimed risk of Covid-19 infection since no Covid-appropriate guidelines have been issued by the authorities for conduct of the exam at some 200 centres in the Country.
