NEW DELHI: The Government has planned to wind up the budget session of Parliament on April 8, four days ahead of the scheduled closure on April 12.

A hint in this regard came in a whip issued by the ruling BJP to its Rajya Sabha members to be present in the remainder session between April 5 and 8. The government wanted to close the session on April 7, but the Opposition insisted to hold it on April 8, which is a Friday, to let the private members’ business be also taken up.

The Whip comes since some important Bills that were passed by the Lok Sabha are still pending clearance by the Rajya Sabha where the ruling coalition does not have a majority. These include merger of all three municipal corporation in the national capital and the Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill to take measurement of convicts and other persons in the investigation of the criminal matters.

Though the BJP and its allies do not have a majority in the Rajya Sabha, the government has generally managed support from various regional parties to get the nod to its various Bills.
