NEW DELHI: Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has sold out the property in the name of his mother Teji Bachchan in Gulmohar Park, the first journalist colony of Delhi, to one Avani Bader living in the same colony and looking for a new property.

A local Hindi daily says the registration of the bungalow named as “Sopan” was done on December 7 last year. It’s built on a 418 sq metre plot in Rs 23 crore. Amitabh used to live there with his father poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and mother until 1970s when he became active in the Bollywood. His father used to host the poets’ gatherings there.

After success of his superhit film Don in 1978, Amitabh had moved his parents to Mumbai where his father died in 2003 and mother in 2007. The bungalow was since then looked after by a caretaker. Amitabh never stayed there for long time. He revived his memories in 2016 during the shooting of Hindi film Pink when he visited the bungalow and tweeted that he was sitting in his father’s chair and the books were spread all over the place.

The new owner says it is a very old construction and so he would demolish to build as per his requirements. The plot was allotted to Amitabh’s mother Teji Bachchan since she was then working with All India Radio (AIR) to be entitled for a space in the journalists’ first cooperative society.
