NEW DELHI/NEET PG EXAM HEARING FIXED FOR TUESDAY AS ITS POSTPONEMENT DOESN’T HELP

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday fixed further hearing on Tuesday at 2 PM on the conduct of the NEET PG examination, after the petitioners said they were not satisfied with the government in the morning deferring it by 6 to 8 weeks from the scheduled date of March 12 as it won’t help to a large extent.

A Bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Surya Kant agreed hear further on the petitioners’ misgiving on the gap in the examination date and the internship completion to enable the students eligible for both.

The students’ counsel said postponement of the examination would mean it would fall in the second week of May while the eligibility creteria leaves out the candidates who would be completing their internship by May 31 as they would become eligible only after that date.

Senior advocate Gopal Sankarnarayanan, appearing for the petitioners, said: “Postponement of the examination will not help to a large extent since completion of the internship is the eligibility criteria for the examination. Today was the last day for submitting applications for the exam.”
The case was, however, not listed on the cause list for Monday since the Chief Justice said its hearing would be subject to placing on record the order of the High Court as the solicitor general said the High Court order is still not published.
