NEW DELHI: The term ‘Patriotic Democratic Alliance” gained attrention as the name of the opposition front as proposed by CPI general secretary D Raja that may get approval at the next gathering in July in Shimla, though some Congress leaders suggest to carry the name of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), a combination it headed under Sonia Gandhi.
Sources said the Congress-oriented UPA could potentially replaced with new nme to ensure equal representation among all stakeholders. Naming of the new alliance signifies the shared vision and principles of diverse parties involved.
A Janata Dal(U) leader highlighted that the UPA acronym has often been associated with corruption by the BJP citing cases of 2G and coal scams that continue to haunt many UPA constituents.
Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Congress legislature party leader, clarified that no decision has been taken regarding the alliance’s name. He said the final decision will be taken during the meeting scheduled in Shimla next month.
