NEW DELHI: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday tweeted that he is not afraid of Prime Minister Modi for whatever action he takes as “I shall continue to work in the national interest.”

The truth cannot be barricaded, he said referring to the AICC headquarters as also his bungalow and that of Congress President Sonia Gandhi barricaded by Delhi Police on Wednesday as a measure to prevent a Congress march on Friday to the PM’s House to protest against the price rise and GST hike on the daily use food items.

After attending a meeting of the Congress MPs in the Parliament House, he told reporters that the National Herald issue is nothing but an attempt of intimidation. “They think we shall be silenced with a little pressure. We won’t be silent. Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are acting against the democracy nd we shall stand against them.”

In reply to another question, he said: “We shall not be intimidated. It makes no difference whatever Narendra Modi does. My task is to protect the nation, democracy nd maintain the harmony which I shall continue irrespective of whatever they do.”

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Khrge on Thursday raised in the Rajya Sabha the issue of the Enforcement Directorate’s summons to him to appear before it at 12.30 PM. He said he would go there since he doesn’t want to avoid the law, but is it proper to issue the summons at a time when he has to be present in the Rajya Sabha as a member of Parliament as also as the Opposition leader.

He also referred to the residences of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul put under siege by Delhi Police since Wednesday. He said this is to demoralise and frighten the Congress, but it will continue its fight.

Congress chief spokesman Jairam Ramesh tweeted that Kharge left Parliament around 12.20 PM and presented himself before the ED. “This is Modishahi reaching new lows,” he added.

In another tweet, Jairam said Kharge has been undergoing interrogation by the ED for the last four and a half hours. His ordeal is continuing. The entire Congress Party stands with him in solidarity, Jairam said. ED had on Wednesday sealed the Herald House, claiming that its officials could not get the documents of the Young Indian company required in the money laundering case since Kharge slipped out locking the office.
Its case is that Young Indian, having 75% shares with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, had illegally acquired the National Herald building of crores from the Associated Journals Limited (AJL), disproportionate to its own worth. Kharge and AICC treasurer Pawan Bansal are the directors of the Young Indian company.
