NEW DELHI: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday ridiculed Prime Minister Modi for imposing his idea unacceptable by those supposed to benefit since he doesn’t listen to anybody except the voices of his “friends.”
In a tweet, he said the latest is the example of ‘Agnipath’ recruitment scheme in India’s armed forces that met with the rejection by the youths who are protesting against it across the country.
He said same kind of rejection of the agricultural laws by the farmers, note-bandi (demonetisation) by the economists and GST by the traders.
His sister and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi also urged the PM to immediately withdraw the scheme which had to be amended within 24 hours. It only shows the scheme has been imposed on the youth in a hurry without proper groundwork.
The CPI(ML) asserted that “Agnipath” bursts the unemployment cauldron and it is nothing but contractualisation that has reached the Army combat units as the unemployment situation worsens.
Its spokesperson Dr Aparna said: “Educated youth poured into streets to express their anger over Govt. announcement of contract jobs in the Army for four years with only fourth of them to be absorbed in the Army. Their hope of Army recruitment providing secure employment was dealt a severe blow, marked by their protests braving assaults by the police.”
