NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday referred to its direction in 2012 to raise the pension of the retired judicial officials and asked the state governments to comply with it within four weeks.A three-judge bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao directed all states to submit a report on compliance in not more than four weeks.

“By an order dated October 8, 2012, this court directed that the existing pension of all the past pensioners who retired after January 1, 1996 and the pensioners whose pensions were consolidated as per Karnataka model shall be raised b 3.07 times on part with other pensioners, subject to a nimimum of 50% of the revised payscale of their respective posts,” the Bench said, stressing that it does not brook any further delay in implementing the direction.

The counsel appearing for the retired judicial officials said some of them are almost 90 years of age while the Court’s directions have not been fully complied or not complied with at all by a few states.

He said the government pensioners draw 50% of the last salary drawn and at least it should be enforced in case of the judicial officials who retire.
