SC JUNKS PIL TO REMOVE ‘WRONG FACTS’ ON TAJ MAHAL FROM HISTORY BOOKS

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a PIL asking the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to ascertain the “true age” of the Raj Mahal and delete the “false facts” about the monument from the history books on schools, colleges and universities.

“What kind of PIL is this?”, asked a bench comprising Justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar. It wondered how will the court decide if the historical facts are right or wrong.

The court allowed the petitioner to withdraw the PIL, with the liberty to make a representation to the ASI. Two months ago, the top court had rejected a similar PIL that sought to uncover the “true history” of the Taj Mahal and allow access to the monument’s secret chambers.
