NEW DELHI: Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate now has Delhi Police chargesheet against Uttar Pradesh BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh, with serious charges of sexual misconduct, harassment , molestation and stalking against India’s most decorated atletes, referees and coaches as the chief of the Wrestling Federation to ask Prime Minister Modi to stop political patronage to this prepetrator of crimen against women.

She told a Press conference here that the chargesheet is based exactly on the same allegations that were raised before the 6-member ‘Oversight committee’ set up by the government in January this year and headed by former MP Mary Kom, 40-year old boxing champ from Manipur that is today burning with ethnic clashes. She said the committee had not raised any red flags of sexual misconduct or sought a police probe in its report in April.

Supriya posed four questions to the Prime Minister, based on the chargesheet, on his conspicuous silence on charges of sexual exploitation against one of his own MPs, when will he and the BJP President throw him out of the BJP and when will he be arrested.

She also accused Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani turning a blind eye on all the grave charges made in the chargesheet. She said the chargesheet is only the test the moral bankruptcy of this government, the prime minister, home minister Amit Shah and BJP chief J P Nadda. Will the BJP not once nor twice, but repeatedly continue to offer political patronage, protection and support to the perpetrator of the crime, and not to the women, she asked.

The Congress spokesperson also appealed to the media to stop giving publicity and platform to Brij Bhushan charged with grave allegations. He is the same Wrestling Federation chief who slammed the decorated wrestlers saying medals are available for Rs 2 or Rs 10.

Supriya said: “The Delhi police chargesheet bears semblance to the fact that India’s athletes have been saying for months and have suffered in silence. That’s the reality of this.

“Yes, there will be a trial; yes, there is corroborating evidence; yes, the law will take its own course, but, governments in this country are run on moral compass and this case once again proves that the moral compass in the BJP is completely lost and nobody cares about what is happening to India’s daughters.”

She recounted that the chargesheet invokes Section 506, criminal intimidation, Section 354, outraging modesty of women, Section 354 sexual harassment, Section 354 (D) stalking. She pointed out that the chargesheet is based on questioning of 108 people, 15 of whom are India’s most decorated athletes, and all corroborated the allegations.
