NEW DELHI: India on Friday recorded as many as 16,561 Covid-19 infections as against 16,299 a day earlier while 39 succumbed to the related death in 24 hours.
Delhi and Karnataka topped with 6 deaths each in 24 hours, followed by 5 in Maharashtra, 4 in West Bengal, 3 each in Puinjab and UP 2 each in Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Gujarat, besides 1 each in J&K, Jharkhand, Manipur, Odisha, Chandigarh and Assam.
The Delhi government has made wearing of the face mask mandatory as 2,073 new cases of the infection were found in the past 24 hours. So far, 26,321 people have died due to the Covid-19 infection.
The total deaths in the country so far stand at 5,26,928 while 4,35,73,098 recovered, giving the recovery rate of 98.53%. The active cases further slumped to 1,23,535. The nationwide vaccination stands at 207.47 crore, with 17.77 lakh vaccine doses imparted in the past 24 hours ending at 7 AM on Friday.
Daily positivity rate stands at 5.44% and weekly positivity rate 4.88%.
