NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India N V Ramana on Friday said the case against Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, could not be put on the cause list due to “office mistake” by the registry despite his orders for listing and now it would be heard the next Tuesday.Families of four victim farmers allegedly mowed down by Ajay’s car have challenged the bail granted to him by the Allahabad High Court. Following a mention by lawyer Prashant Bhushan on March 4 for urgent listing, the CJI had ordered its listing on March 11.

Though the case was not listed as such, advocate Bhushan mentioned before the Bench headed by the CJI that the prime witness in the case was attacked Thursday night. “It was to be heard today. Last night there was an attack on one of the prime witnesses of the case,” Bhushan said.

The trial court had in November 2021, rejected Mishra’s plea for bail. However, he was granted bail by the High Court on February 10.

The family members of the deceased farmers said they had to move the top court on February 21 since the Uttar Pradesh government did not challenge the High Court order.

Since after Mishra’s arrest, the special investigation team (SIT) of the Pradesh Police had filed a 5,000-page charge sheet before a
local court, naming Mishra as the prime accused in the case
